Well, let's all get out of this funk! Here, today is nice, but tomorrow will be rainy and cooler. Prepare in advance. Have healthy food around and get that junk out of the house. Start cooking again if you decided to swear it off for good to only eat take-out. Cooking healthy, delicious meals is a wonderful outlet for me. I love making food that others enjoy, but I love it even more if I know it's good for them. If you're still craving comfort foods, look into making them healthier. Use water instead of oil to saute vegetables. Substitute applesauce in baking recipes that call for oil. Add more veggies to your soups and pasta sauces. Sneak loads of fresh greens into your fruit smoothies. Start partaking in Meatless Mondays. Use half the amount of sugar or cheese a recipe requires, or omit refined sugar and cheese altogether. You get the point.
If cooking isn't your thing, find something that does inspire you and lifts your spirits. Exercise can be a tough thing to start, but the key is to just get it going. When I'm feeling down the last thing I really want to do is exercise. I push myself to do it, and I feel better afterward every time. I find it's such a great time to clear my head and come up with new, inspiring ideas. One key is to find something you enjoy and do not dread doing. If you do not enjoy it, chances are you are not going to stick to it. Yoga, running, walking, biking, jumping rope, dancing, rollerblading, volleyball, basketball, swimming, soccer, hiking...just a few possibilities.
If these ideas seem too much at first, start simple. Call a friend or family member and talk to them about your idea to start something new and rewarding. Listen to uplifting music. I know you've heard this one before, but I swear by it. Music has always had such an important role in my life (thanks, Mom, for raising us on disco and all that other funky music we used to dance to!). If you're really feeling down, sometimes listening to a sad song and having a good cry is all you need. You might feel better afterward.
Find something that works for you! The bottom line is we are not going to be taking good care of ourselves overall if we are feeling down. Just know that this, too, shall pass, and you will feel better and energized in no time!
AND...the 1-Week Vegan Challenge #2 begins tomorrow. If anyone is interested in joining, there is still time to enroll. It's a wonderful way to kick off spring!
